This was commissioned by Don Thorsen. Don asked me to make a pretty song that incorporated the public domain poem of W.B. Yeats, "When You Are Old." I modified the poem slightly to fit the song as it came out.
lyrics
When you are old and grey and nodding by the fire full of sleep
Take down this book and slowly read and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once and of their shadows deep
How many loved your beauty
And loved your moments of glad grace
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you
And loved the sorrows of your changing face
And murmur a little sadly
Bending down beside the glowing bars
How love fled and paced upon the mountains
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars
